Add the ability to print a map to the correct scale
When "print map" is selected with the topo 50 selected, and the print option is selected as A4 portrait, for example, then the red print area should default to 10.5 x 14.85 grid squares (less about a 6 mm print margin all around). It can then be moved around by the central handle to get the best coverage of the area of interest. It is much more legible to print the maps at the scale they were intended to be printed.

include a 'pen' button
include a 'pen' button that, once pressed, allows you to draw a route on a map in a separate 'layer' which could then be saved or shared with others. Also distance could be calculated - either based on topography (if possible) or as the crow flies.

Zoom in more for comparing topo map against satellite imagery
When using the transparency control to compare the topo map against satellite imagery the ability to zoom in further would be handy as the satellite imagery has more detail available.

Upload GPX, KML & KMZ map overlays
The ability to upload GPX, KML & KMZ overlay files directly to the service for displaying over the topo map without needing to self-host using a 3rd party service like Dropbox.
This will make sharing tracks and other overlay information on the topo maps easier.

Complete the spelling change from 'Rimutaka' to 'Remutaka'
As far as I can see all previous uses of "Rimutaka" on the topomap have, appropriately, been changed to "Remutaka", following the Geographic Board's decision of October 2017.
To complete this change you need to update the searchable list of feature names, which still has multiple occurrences of "Rimutaka" and none of "Remutaka"

Include Street names in search.
Currently Street names cannot be searched for. For example Scotts Road and Mangatarere Valley Road are used to access the Tararuas. But you can't find them to plan your drive to the road end.
I suggestion that street names be added to the search, but optionally, so you might have to click a box to include street names into the search.7 votes -
Provide sorting options for the Search Results
Its not clear how or why the search results returned are ordered.
I'd like to suggest some options be provided.
1) closeness to location shown on map currently displayed
2) strict alphabetically
3) north to south or vice versa)
and possibly a filter, e.g. restrict to region.7 votes -
Improve the search
Improve the search so when I enter say "murphy" it finds "murphys" etc
e.g. murphy is the equivalent of murphys* (string plust wildcard).Alternatively allow users to specify wildcards

OSX Apple iPhone App
Such a great resource should be available for iphones too! I would use this a lot, especially with the offline availability. And yes I'm well aware of map toaster, but the overlays with aerial and satellite imagery is game changer.

Adding boundaries per territorial unit level
I was just thinking for this online researching map to make things more interesting in a local and sub-national aspect. And that is to add boundary lines for every territorial unit level within the nation of New Zealand: from regional councils to territorial authorities to wards to even area unit-level divisions (either suburbs & towns & neighborhoods on urban areas or communities & localities & settlements & villages on rural areas). Any thoughts?

Support locations via what3words
Support indexing via what3words. This is an brilliant indexing system for the entire world where each 3x3m location can be indexed via 3 words. For example, the ChristChurch Cathedral can be located using "loaf.reason.closed"; much easier to say than "-43.5309188,172.6371539"
This location cane be shown on a map using the url http://w3w.co/loaf.reason.closed
I think two features would be really useful here:
* Display the what3words location of the cursor in the Coordinates menu.
* Provide an alternate URL scheme to allow the w3w address to be added to allow embedding, links etc. From the what2words website:
